Owner Poll and Results

In the most recent poll we posed the question of how epilepsy affected quality of life for canine patients. In dogs where medication was used to control seizures almost half of pet owners felt their pet’s quality of life was impaired but good and 40% felt that their epileptic dog had a normal life. With careful management it is clear that epileptic pets can retain a good life experience.

In 2010 the neurologists from the Small Animal Hospital of the University of Glasgow Veterinary School will be undertaking a survey of owners of epileptic dogs across the country. Questionnaires will be available to download or print from this website. If you are the owner of an epileptic dog and would be willing to take part in a survey please check back later this year or send your email contact details to editorial@vetstream.com and a questionnaire will be sent to you by email as soon as it is available.

Pet Owner Poll

An increasing number of new anticonvulsants are appearing to sit alongside the standard medications of phenobarbitone (epiphen) and bromide. These are generally reserved for those patients who respond poorly to standard medication either due to lack of response or intolerable side effects. In this poll we are trying to assess how often these novel treatments are used. Is your dog receiving anticonvulsant therapy in addition to (or as an alternative to) phenobarbitone and bromide?
